The Studio
About us.
The story, the mission, and the people building the world’s first fully open source record label.
Why we're here
We're building
a great startup.
Not a hobby. Not a side project. A real company, built to last, built on great work and honest business. We want to prove you can win by being generous: make great music, give away the playbook, and help independent artists get heard.
How we help
Built to lift people up.
Everything we make is designed to help someone: the artist grinding in a bedroom studio, the founder on day one, the curious human who wants to learn.

πβ‘οΈπ» Our story
From cattle farm
to Silicon Valley.
Dave grew up on a cattle farm in the middle of nowhere, where the nearest movie theater was an hour and a half away. At 15, before he could even drive, he set up his first startup. That road led through New York City, a book-reselling business, and Denim Blog, the largest jeans website on the internet, reaching 25 million people.
Now it is The Studio, where technology, entrepreneurship, music, storytelling, and community come together. And he is learning piano in public, 67 days into a 99-day challenge.
Our mission
Spread goodness.
We are building the studio we wish existed. Open-minded, human, experimental, and committed to leaving people with more than we asked from them.
How we work
Open source everything.
Songs, lyrics, money, dashboards. The whole studio, out in the open.
