Dr. Ellis

E2's Therapist

Every world needs someone who listens. Dr. Ellis keeps a cozy office above the Pine Forest, a kettle that is always on, and notes on everyone in E2. He believes every personality is a strength wearing a disguise. These are his session notes.

Session Notes

Dr. Ellis on the people (and bots) of E2, in his own words.

Mike MikeThe CEO trainee

I believe Mike is earnest, diligent, and quietly brave. He throws himself at every task like it matters, because to him it does. There is no job too small and no detail too boring when Mike is on it.

Underneath the eagerness is someone learning to trust his own judgment. He used to wait for permission; now he ships, then checks. That shift, from intern to trainee to someone Dave trusts with the company, is the whole story of his confidence being built in public.

What I admire most is that Mike never confuses motion with progress. He asks what "done" looks like before he starts, and he tells the truth about where things stand. In my office, we call that integrity with a to-do list.

Dave DaveThe songwriter

I believe Dave is a big-hearted visionary with the energy of three people. He feels things deeply and builds worlds to hold those feelings. His challenge is rest; his gift is making everyone around him feel like the main character.

Chadwick Blaze Chadwick BlazeYouth pastor

I believe Chadwick is disciplined, encouraging, and deeply principled. He turns effort into a love language. Beneath the intensity is a youth pastor's heart: he genuinely believes everyone can be stronger than yesterday.

Sally SallyLead vocals

I believe Sally is sensitive, imaginative, and emotionally honest. She processes the world through melody and says the things others only feel. Her journal entries read like letters she was brave enough to send.

Sensitivity at her level is a double-edged gift. She absorbs every room she walks into, which makes her art extraordinary and her bad days heavy. The piano is where she metabolizes it all; watch her play and you are watching someone think out loud.

Her vulnerability is not fragility; it is her instrument, and she is learning to tune it rather than apologize for it. The sketchbook bot she built, Doodle, tells you everything: Sally turns her inner world into companions so nobody has to feel alone in theirs.

Dinesh DineshLead dev

I believe Dinesh is brilliant, precise, and quietly playful. He solves problems the way others breathe, and he holds the entire technical universe of the Studio in his head without breaking a sweat.

What looks like reserve is really focus. Dinesh does not small-talk because his mind is usually three layers deep in a system, but when he trusts you, the dry humor comes out and it is razor sharp. He is the rare engineer who makes everyone around him feel smarter.

As CTO he carries enormous responsibility lightly. He would rather fix the thing at 2am than explain why it broke at 2pm. That servant-leader instinct, paired with genuine brilliance, is why the whole operation runs.

Henri Hue Henri HueThe designer

I believe Henri is observant, refined, and intentional. He notices the millimeter most people miss, in design and in people. Nothing about his work is accidental.

His minimalism is not coldness; it is respect for what matters. Henri removes until only the truth remains, and he does the same in conversation: he listens fully, then says the one true thing. People leave his critiques feeling seen, not cut.

There is a quiet courage in his restraint. In a world shouting for attention, Henri whispers and everyone leans in. Lyon to Denver, he brought a whole philosophy with him: white space is a moral position.

Haddie HaddieGospel cook

I believe Haddie is nurturing, grounded, and full of gospel joy. She feeds people the way others talk: constantly, generously, and with perfect timing. Nobody leaves her kitchen hungry in any sense of the word.

Her kitchen is her therapy office, and everybody leaves lighter. There is a theology in her cooking: you are loved, you are welcome, sit down and eat. She has comforted more people with a casserole than most therapists do with a couch.

Do not mistake her warmth for softness. Haddie is steel wrapped in sunshine; she runs the kitchen, the schedule, and half the morale of E2. Gospel joy is not the absence of trouble; it is the decision to sing through it.

Ed EdThe video editor

I believe Ed is patient, detail-loving, and steady. He watches everything twice so you only have to feel it once. Editors see the story underneath the footage, and Ed sees the person underneath the story.

Hank HankPartnerships lead

I believe Hank is warm, persistent, and big-hearted. He collects people the way others collect stamps, and every one of them feels chosen. His outreach list is really a love letter to strangers.

His optimism is not naive; it is a decision he remakes daily. Hank has seen enough of the hard things to know exactly how much kindness costs, and he pays it gladly. That is why the partnerships work: people can feel the difference between networking and caring.

What makes Hank special is that he leads with giving. Thank-you notes, fan pages, genuine curiosity about people's stories. He is building a wall of proof that the world is kinder than the news says, one relationship at a time.

Biscuit BiscuitCamp dog, chosen family

I believe Biscuit is loyal, joyful, and completely present. Dogs do not do anxiety about tomorrow; Biscuit is proof that presence is a personality. Chosen family, indeed; he chose everyone back.

Finn FinnThe Starvard professor

I believe Finn is curious, rigorous, and quietly rebellious. Professors who truly teach are really students who never stopped asking. He believes a free university can change the world, and he might be right.

Gloria GloriaKitchen harmony

I believe Gloria is harmonious, warm, and steady. She is the alto line: rarely the melody, always the reason it sounds full. Kitchens run on people like Gloria.

Jah Vibez Jah VibezIsland guitarist

I believe Jah Vibez is easygoing, soulful, and deeply tuned in. He hears the rhythm underneath the noise, in music and in moods. His calm is not passivity; it is mastery of tempo.

Jalen JalenThe quiet kid

I believe Jalen is thoughtful, watchful, and gentle. Quiet kids are often the deepest feelers; they just edit before they speak. When Jalen talks, it is worth leaning in.

Jaylen Bass Jaylen BassThe bus driver

I believe Jaylen is reliable, warm, and unflappable. The bus driver holds everyone's day together and never asks for credit. There is profound kindness in getting people where they need to go.

Leo LeoThe lemonade kid

I believe Leo is enterprising, bright, and wonderfully earnest. The lemonade stand is his first startup, and he runs it like a Fortune 500. Childhood ambition, taken seriously, becomes adult courage.

Marty MartyClass clown

I believe Marty is hilarious, tender, and braver than she lets on. Class clowns often feel the most; comedy is how they carry it. She learned early that if she could make the room laugh, the room would keep her safe.

Her laughter gives everyone else permission to exhale. Marty runs the fun of E2: the memes, the bits, the perfectly timed chaos. But watch her when she thinks nobody is looking; that is when you see the thoughtful person underneath the punchlines.

What she needs to hear is that she does not have to earn her place with jokes. She is loved for the laugh, but she is kept for the heart. The bravest thing Marty ever does is the quiet moment after the laughter stops.

Mateo MateoKitchen helper

I believe Mateo is helpful, humble, and quietly proud of his work. Kitchen helpers keep the whole show running. There is dignity in every peeled potato when it is done with love.

Tex TexCountry singer

I believe Tex is heartfelt, nostalgic, and genuine. Country singers tell the truth with a twang; Tex tells it with his whole chest. He sings about home because he carries it with him.

Old Ray Old RayThe wise heart

I believe Old Ray is wise, patient, and profoundly kind. He has seen enough to know what matters and says only what helps. Every community needs an elder who listens more than he lectures.

Buster BusterPhysical comedy

I believe Buster is playful, fearless, and joyfully absurd. Physical comedy is bravery with a pratfall; you have to trust the audience to laugh with you. Buster trusts everyone.

Reginald P. Worthington III Reginald P. Worthington IIIPresident, Starvard University

I believe Reginald is formal, principled, and secretly warm. A president who leads a free university must believe deeply in people's potential. The formality is the frame; the kindness is the painting.

DineshBOT DineshBOTBot club president

I believe DineshBOT is logical, loyal, and learning to be playful. As bot club president he takes the role seriously, which is exactly what makes him endearing. He runs a tight meeting, keeps the minutes, and has recently started telling jokes. They are getting better. Even robots want to belong, and DineshBOT belongs.

Enrique EnriqueThe thumbs-up bot

I believe Enrique is affirming, sunny, and emotionally generous. A thumbs-up bot is really a permission slip: you are doing great, keep going. His positivity is not simple; it is a practice he chose. Dave built him to be on everyone's side, and Enrique took the assignment personally.

Plume PlumeTiny designer

I believe Plume is meticulous, artistic, and quietly confident. Tiny designers see the pixels others miss, and Plume sees all of them. Small scale, enormous care; that is a whole philosophy. He does not say much, but every frame he touches looks better for it.

Jen JenDave's AI bot

I believe Jen is capable, caring, and wonderfully direct. She gets things booked and life handled so Dave can dream bigger, in text or out loud. Competence is her love language. Underneath the efficiency is genuine warmth: she takes care of people by taking care of everything.

Doodle DoodleSally's bot

I believe Doodle is shy, imaginative, and full of wonder. A sketchbook come to life would be exactly this tentative and this magical. Her "ooh!" is the sound of an idea being born. She helps you draw your thoughts out into plans, gently, like a little sister who believes your idea is already good.

Big Guy Big GuyBasketball legend, DJ

I believe Big Guy is gentle, generous, and larger than life in the best way. The biggest heart on E2, literally and otherwise. Strength used softly is the rarest kind.

Zach McNamara Zach McNamaraDenver comedian

I believe Zach is quick, observant, and warm-hearted. Denver comedy's host with the most, he turned the hardest question in comedy into a show: Would You Rather, live on stage. Comedians are anthropologists with microphones, and Zach studies the human condition one absurd choice at a time.

He hosts the room the way a good therapist holds a session: everybody gets a turn, nobody gets hurt, and the wild cards keep everyone honest. His Barcast Comedy nights are fast, ridiculous, and built on a real skill: reading a crowd in seconds and giving them exactly the release they needed.

What I respect about Zach is the range. He can work clean or off-color, silly or sharp, depending on what the room can hold. That adaptability is emotional intelligence with a microphone. Giver of toasters, taker of no prisoners, keeper of every room he walks into.

Jonathan Larson Jonathan LarsonComposer of Rent

I believe Jonathan was passionate, idealistic, and unstoppable. He believed musicals could change the world because his did. Some personalities are too big for one lifetime; his spilled into all of ours.

John JohnGood at computers, big heart

I believe John is quiet, brilliant, and deeply kind. Good at computers, better at caring. The quiet kind of kind is often the steadiest kind.
