01 / Mission

🎯 The Studio is an open creative company.

The Studio is Dave Dlaney's creative company. Its record-label project is an experiment in building the world's first fully open source label, where songs, lyrics, stems, data, dashboards, money, processes, and lessons become public. Dlaney is the flagship artist, learning five instruments in a year and writing 50 songs in public. Other projects include the Short Bus musical, Strive Capital, and Craige Consulting.

North star

We are trying to connect with people and make great music. Hopefully, one person eventually writes back: “thank you, your music really moved me.” If that happens, the mission is achieved. That is the goal, not a milestone on the way to scale.

📖 The short story

Dave Dlaney grew up on a cattle farm in the middle of nowhere. At 15, before he could drive, he started a web design agency. After his teenage years he moved to New York and spent time in New York City. In college he started a book-reselling business, then an entrepreneurship community that became Honest Forum, which evolved into Denim Blog, the largest jeans website on the internet, reaching 25 million people. He worked six months in India and six months at an orphanage in Bolivia, then sold the company and did consulting. Now: The Studio.

📊 All the numbers, even the small ones.

Campaign goals are 5,000 streams across streaming platforms and 50,000 views across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. These are dated snapshots, not live counters. “Total streams” combines listening platforms, while catalog plays below refer only to the 39-track AI song tools catalog.

1,053total streams, Sep 28 · 21% of goal
20,370total views, Sep 28 · 41% of goal

46SoundCloud tracks after cleanup
14YouTube subscribers, Sep 28
283Instagram followers, Sep 28

The Sep 27 baseline was 1,045 streams and 21,000 views. Instagram views use a rolling 30-day window, so the view dip reflects the window shifting, not views being removed. At the Sep 27 baseline, YouTube had 11,707 lifetime views across 17 videos, TikTok had 12 followers, 108 likes, and 15 videos, and Instagram reported about 74% non-follower views.

[Intro Spoken Word - Deep African Male Voice, warm and inspiring, no music, distant ocean sounds] My friend… Life moves fast, eh? Too fast sometimes. We chase the money… We chase the future… And forget the beauty of right now. But somewhere… Beyond the noise… Beyond the stress… There is a place waiting for you. A place where your heart feels lighter. A place where your family smiles more. A place where your soul remembers how to dance. Close your eyes… Take a deep breath… And come with me. [Beat drops - Tropical House] [Verse 1] Wake up to the sunrise glow, yeah / Feel that breeze, let your spirit flow, yeah / Life been heavy, moving too fast / Take a breath, leave behind the past / No map needed, just follow your heart / Every ending is a brand new start / Hear the rhythm in the ocean tide / There's a little place where your soul can hide / You don't need no gold, no crown / Just a place where love surrounds [Pre-Chorus] Hands up high, let your worries go / Feel that island energy flow [Chorus] Find your island, let your worries fade away / Somewhere that fits your vibe, where your heart can stay / Bring your family, bring your friends along / Where the nights feel right and the days feel strong / Find your island, yeah it's calling you / A little piece of life that feels so true / Oh-oh-oh… Find your island / Oh-oh-oh… Let your spirit fly [Drop] (Tropical House Instrumental) Island vocal chops / Steel drums / Marimba melody / Beach percussion [Verse 2] Barefoot walking on the sand so warm / Safe and sound in a simple form / Laughter echo through the coconut trees / Living life with a mind at ease / No stress, no rush, just time to feel / Every little moment keeping it real / From the music playing soft at night / To the fire glowing warm and bright / You don't need no fancy view / Just a place that feels like you [Pre-Chorus] (repeat) [Chorus] (repeat) [Bridge] Maybe it's not a place you find on a map / Maybe it's the love in every laugh / In every hug, in every smile / That's your island all the while [Build] So take that step, don't be afraid / Your paradise is already made / Close your eyes, let your spirit run / Your island's waiting, your journey's begun [Final Chorus - Bigger] (chorus lyrics; ends "Oh-oh-oh… Your island's calling you") [Outro] Find your island… Find your island… Your island's waiting…

[Intro] Acordeón flotando sobre el beat… Eh-eh… [Coro] Flow… Solo baila… Déjate llevar… / Flow… Solo baila… No mires atrás… / Let's go… One more time… Toda la gente en movimiento. / Let's go… One more time… Viviendo este momento. [Último Coro] Flow… Solo baila… Déjate llevar… / Flow… Solo baila… No mires atrás… / Que la noche es nuestra, como un sueño tropical. / Y el acordeón nos guía hasta el amanecer total. / Flow… Solo baila… Toda la madrugada. / Flow… Solo baila… Con el alma liberada. [Outro] Eh-eh… Acordeón y house… Mar y ciudad… / Eh-eh… Solo baila… Solo baila… Solo baila…
Just Be Cool!53 playsComplete lyrics
(Intro) Yeah, yeah, yeah , We live in a crazy world, gotta keep it light, Kindness is cool, let's do this right. (Verse 1) Every day's a test, people stressin' in the race, But love hits harder when you lead with grace. No need to flex, no need to pretend, Just be yourself, that's the realest trend. If you're 5'10, then be 5'10, Ain't nobody need stilts just to fit in again. Respect others, it's a simple rule, You don't need to be the king just to be cool. (Chorus) Kindness is cool, yeah, that's the move, Spread a little love, find your groove. We all got dreams, we all got goals, But it's how you treat people that makes you whole. (Verse 2) Smile at a stranger, hold that door, Those little things mean so much more. Lift each other up, don't tear down, We can all shine , there's enough crown. Keep it real, keep it kind, That's the peace-of-mind design. No hate, no shade, no foolin', Just stay true, just keep coolin'. (Bridge) You don't gotta brag, don't gotta fight, Real ones glow with inner light. We're all human, we all fall, But together we can rise tall. (Chorus) Kindness is cool, yeah, that's the move, Spread a little love, find your groove. Respect others, yeah, that's the rule, We live in a crazy world , just be cool. (Outro) So walk your path, don't fake your height, Be who you are, you're built just right. Kindness forever, that's the tool , Peace, love, unity , just be cool

She is Strong!36 plays · Broadway and cinematic ballad.Complete lyrics
[Intro , soft piano, reflective] A single light… a quiet room… / A child who learned to grow too soon… [Verse 1] I grew up in shadows, a house with no sound, / No arms there to catch me when I hit the ground. / Cold nights creeping in under my door, / But I learned how to stand, I kept wanting more. / No lullabies, no one to defend, / So I made my own rules, became my own friend. / Every step forward, a mountain to climb, / Now I say to myself, yeah, that life was mine. [Pre-Chorus] I know the silence, I know the ache, / I know the choices a heart has to make… [Chorus , big, emotional] I am strong, stronger than I knew, / Faced every storm and I made it through. / I love me, I finally see, / I'm everything they said I'd never be. / I choose kindness, though I've known pain, / I rise up every time I break again. / I've come this far, I won't run, / Look at me now… what I've become. [Verse 2] I treat people gently, I know the cost, / Of feeling invisible, broken, and lost. / So I carry the light I was never shown, / Building a world that I can call home. / Every scar is a lesson I survived, / Every fall just proves I'm still alive. / No easy road, every step I earned, / There's a fire inside me that forever burns. [Pre-Chorus] I know that darkness, walked alone, / Turned that weight into strength of my own. [Chorus , bigger] I am strong, stronger than I knew, / Faced every storm and I made it through. / I love me, I finally see, / I'm everything they said I'd never be. / I choose kindness, though I've known pain, / I rise up every time I break again. / I stand tall in the pouring rain. [Bridge , soft to build] No one showed me how to fly, / Still I reached up to the sky. / Every fall became a flame, / Every wound, I rose again. [Final Chorus , full power] I am strong, stronger than I knew, / Faced every storm and I broke right through. / I love me, now I finally see, / I'm everything they said I'd never be. / I choose kindness, let it shine, / There's still so much light inside. / I've come this far, I've already won, / Look at my life… how far I've come. [Outro , soft piano] A single light… no longer alone… / I finally found my way home.

I am Good!26 plays · Lyrics from Dave's original Notes draft.Complete lyrics
(Verse 1) Yeah… You always were yelling, for no reason at all, Words hit heavy, tried to make me feel small. You pushed me down, tried to keep me low, But I was built up stronger than you know. So many lies, yeah you twisted the truth, Tried to dim my light, tried to steal my youth. But I see it clear now, I know what’s real, You can’t rewrite the way I feel. You said 1+1 is 3, tried to bend what’s true, But that math don’t lie,and neither do I, I knew. (Pre-Chorus) I was breaking, now I rise, Found my strength, I found my light. (Chorus) I AM GOOD. I AM GOOD. I AM GOOD. I am good Yeah, I’m standing like I should Look at me now I turned pain into my crown Look at how far I’ve come No more hiding, no more run I treat people with kindness That’s my strength, that’s my brightness I live my life to the fullest Heart wide open, never ruthless I am free, I am proud Say it strong, say it loud Go! (Verse 2) Now I walk with peace, love in my stride, No more fear living inside. You tried to break me, but I built my soul, Turned every wound into control. I don’t hold hate, I let it go, That’s real power, that’s what I show. Every step forward, every breath I take, Is a win they could never take. (Bridge) New chapter, I rewrite, Turn the dark into the light. (Outro) Yeah… Look at me now.

I know life gets a little messy sometimes… But I got one thing to say to you tonight! [Verse 1] You wake up in the morning, coffee's gone cold Your dreams feel a little too big to hold You scroll through jobs, none call you back You start thinkin', "Man… what do I lack?" Your mama says "Patience," your friends say "Wait" But your rent's due now and you're stressin' your faith You try your best, but it feels like a test Like the world's sayin', "Sorry, you're not the best!" [Pre-Chorus] But hold on tight, don't lose your spark Even the smallest flame can light the dark! [Chorus] YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! (Oh yeah!) Even when it's hard to see! When the road gets rough and the climb's too steep, You gotta believe! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! (Come on now!) There's a plan for you and me! When your heart says stop but your soul says GO, That's when you believe! [Verse 2] You're swipin' left, swipin' right all day Tryna find love in a digital way You meet someone, think "This is it!" Two weeks later, ghosted, quit! You pray real hard for "the one above" But all you're gettin' is "situationship love" You start to wonder, "Is it just me?" Or is romance a mystery? [Pre-Chorus] But don't give up on what could be Your story's still got a melody! [Chorus] YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! (Sing it loud!) Love is comin', just you see! Every heartbreak, every tear, Is bringin' you closer, year by year! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! (Yes you do!) There's a purpose meant for YOU! When you stumble, when you fall, Get back up, give it your all! [Bridge , Half spoken, preacher energy building] Now listen! I know the struggle! I know the doubt! I've been there, pacing, cryin', shoutin' it out! But every setback? That's just delay! Every "not yet"? That's God sayin', "WAIT!" So clap your hands if you're still in the fight! Stomp your feet if you know it'll be alright! [Breakdown , Choir style call and response] Leader: Do you believe?! Choir: I BELIEVE! Leader: Even when you can't see?! Choir: I BELIEVE! Leader: When life ain't fair?! Choir: I BELIEVE! Leader: When no one's there?! Choir: I BELIEVE! [Final Chorus] YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! (Believe! Believe!) Through the storm and the mystery! When your world feels upside down, Turn it up, don't you back down! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! (Hold on tight!) Your breakthrough's in your sight! Every dream that's in your heart, Has been there from the start! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! (One more time!) You are stronger than your fears! Lift your voice, let it ring, THIS is your awakening! [Outro , Spoken, warm] Now go on out there… Chase those dreams… love those people… And don't forget, You gotta believe!

(Verse 1) I grew up with less, had to figure it out, No one in my corner, had to be my own route. Cold nights, quiet house, heavy on my chest, But I kept on moving, I ain’t never rest. Didn’t get the help that a lot of kids had, Still I found a way, even when it got bad. Every step forward, yeah I earned that climb, Now I look back like… yeah, that life was mine. (Pre-Chorus) I know pain, I know being alone, But I turned that feeling into something I own. (Chorus) I am strong, yeah, stronger than I knew, Made it through storms that nobody else could do. I love me, yeah, I finally see, I’m everything they said I couldn’t be. Kindness, yeah that’s what I choose, Even when I got something to lose. I came this far, I won’t run, Look at me now… look what I’ve become. (Verse 2) I treat people right ‘cause I know that hurt, Being left out, feeling less than your worth. So I give love, yeah I keep it real, Never want nobody feeling how I feel. Every scar got a lesson in it, Every loss made me stronger, I admit it. No shortcuts, yeah I paid my dues, Now I walk tall in these worn-out shoes. (Pre-Chorus) I know pain, I know that road, But I turned that weight into solid gold. (Bridge) No one showed me, I had to learn, Every fall just made me burn. Into something stronger, something real, Now I stand here, I can feel, (Final Chorus) I am strong, yeah, stronger than I knew, Made it through storms that nobody else could do. I love me, yeah, I finally see, I’m everything they said I couldn’t be. Kindness, yeah I still choose that, Even with the weight on my back. I came this far, I already won, Look at my life… look how far I’ve come.

[Verse] Used to stand outside looking through the glass Every door felt locked, every moment passed Had to grind my way just to get inside Now I’m here with you and it feels so right Late nights, long roads, chasing something real Every setback taught me how to feel Now I’m standing here, yeah, we finally made it All that pressure built us, never faded [Pre-chorus] And I swear this moment feels so clear Everything changed the second you appeared [Chorus] I’m so glad, so glad you’re here with me From the outside in, now we’re finally free All that noise faded into a melody Now it’s just you and me in harmony I’m so glad, yeah, there’s an “us” tonight Through the dark we found a different light We were fighting just to get this right Now we’re vibing on a higher life (Oh we made it through every doubt and fear) (Now I know why it all led me here) [Verse] Wasn’t easy getting through the line Had to prove myself time after time Every no just pushed me to a yes Now I see it all was for the best Different paths but they intertwined Like the stars were shifting over time Now we’re here and it all makes sense Every moment building to this chance [Pre-chorus] If I could rewind, I’d still choose the climb ‘Cause it led me straight into your light [Chorus] I’m so glad, so glad you’re here with me From the outside in, now we’re finally free All that noise faded into a melody Now it’s just you and me in harmony I’m so glad, yeah, there’s an “us” tonight Through the dark we found a different light We were fighting just to get this right Now we’re vibing on a higher life (Oh we made it through every doubt and fear) (Now I know why it all led me here) [Instrumental interlude] [Bridge] Now we’re rolling, no slowing down Turn the spark into something loud Every step, yeah, we’re breaking ground Building something they can’t tear down No more waiting, no looking back We got rhythm, we’re on the track Side by side, yeah, we move like that Let’s keep going, no fade to black [Chorus] I’m so glad, so glad you’re here with me From the outside in, now we’re finally free All that noise faded into a melody Now it’s just you and me in harmony I’m so glad, yeah, there’s an “us” tonight Through the dark we found a different light We were fighting just to get this right Now we’re vibing on a higher life (Oh we made it through every doubt and fear) (Now I know why it all led me here)

In the Corner10 plays · Lyrics from Dave's original Notes draft. A 90s country style love song about a longtime couple.Complete lyrics
Verse 1 In the corner, they’re swayin’ slow tonight, Like they have in kitchens in the soft porch light, But here there’s a band and a wedding crowd, Soft song playin’, laughter all around. For once their hands ain’t holdin’ anything, No bottles, no toys, no small voices singin’, Just ten years woven in the way they move, Like nothin’ in this world they’ve got to prove. Chorus In the corner, they found their way back home, In each other’s arms where they’re not alone, Through the days that rush and the nights that stay, They keep choosing love in the quiet way. In the corner, where the world fades out, That’s what forever’s all about. Verse 2 A friend nearby’s rockin’ that baby to sleep, Givin’ them a moment they don’t often keep, It ain’t been perfect, it never will be, Some days run hard, some come easily, But they’ve learned to bend, learned when to stand, Drawn their lines, built life hand in hand, Guardin’ the love that they’ve grown together, Holdin’ it close through any weather. Chorus In the corner, they found their way back home, In each other’s arms where they’re not alone, Through the days that rush and the nights that stay, They keep choosing love in the quiet way. In the corner, where the world fades out, That’s what forever’s all about. Outro When the night ends and the baby cries, They’ll still see love in each other’s eyes, In the corner, where they started again, Still slow dancing… like they’ve always been.

[Final chorus, fuller, gospel lift] (chorus lyrics) [Tag, quiet, mug in both hands] Thank you, baby. I'm still singing.
I Am StrongFinale: Sally, 25, on a New York stage, ten years after Pine Lake. Style: triumphant warm pop anthem, soaring female vocal, piano and strings building to a huge singalong chorus, city crowd joining in, sunset glow, emotional and uplifting, full-circle finale energy.Musical lyrics
[Verse 1] Ten years ago I sang so soft / Only the pines could hear / A girl who hid her voice away / With the ones who held her dear / Now the sun is going down on the city / And I'm standing in the light / And the song I started back at Pine Lake / Is gonna carry me tonight [Pre-chorus] Daddy, I still miss you, that's never going away / But missing you don't mean I'm broken, hear me when I say [Chorus] I am strong! (I am strong!) / Stronger than the thing that tried to break me / I am strong! (I am strong!) / Look how far a little courage takes me / I sang it to the pine trees, now I'm singing to the sky / New York, sing it with me, lift your voices high! / I am strong! [Verse 2] Dinesh is filming like he always does / Marty's crying, says she's not / Echo's got his headphones 'round his neck / And man, we've come a long way from that parking lot / From a short bus and a summer week / To everything we are / The girl who whispered is a woman now / And she's singing to the stars [Bridge, soft at first, then building] To every kid who's hiding their song / In a hallway, in a room where they don't belong / Your voice is waiting, it's been there all along / Sing it out, sing it strong... [Final chorus, huge, the city sings it back] I am strong! (I am strong!) / Stronger than the thing that tried to break me / I am strong! (I am strong!) / Look how far a little courage takes me / I sang it to the pine trees, now I'm singing to the sky / New York, sing it with me, lift your voices high! / I am strong! I am strong! / I am strong! [Tag, SALLY, soft, smiling at her friends] Still here. Still singing.

From the bite to the yard, from the alley to the stars above, / every scar on my skin, let me straight to your love. / They can shove us to the ground, but will rise and will raise the bar. / We were born in the dark, now we're dancing in this mighty light, heart first. Tin roof, now it's a rooftop, one by night, glowing in a rise. / He whispers, "We made it." She says, "You were always meant to." / For my heart's love, and it does to the dream we carved, and that shed is Mira, / hand in hand, singing look up, look up, look up, look up.
05 / Cast

🎤 Our characters are our team.

The Studio has twelve characters. Each one is a musical act with a distinct voice, sound, and point of view. Together, they are the cast and the team behind the music. Five of them also do the real work of running the creative company: Dlaney, Chadwick Blaze, Marty, Dinesh, and Mira.

Dlaney

Musical act + Founder & MC

Part MC, part student, part believer. Thirteen songs across house, drum and bass, rap, and studio stories.

Sally

Musical act · Lead vocals

Songs about strength and identity. An AI-assisted character, never presented as a real person.

Chadwick Blaze

Musical act + Chief believer

Trying, gratitude, country warmth, and motivational anthems. He also helps guide The Studio's spirit and direction.

Haddie

Musical act · Gospel choir lead

The roof-raiser, leading faith and surrender songs.

Gloria

Musical act · Gospel choir

The praise partner, singing with Haddie across the gospel catalog.

Jaylen Bass

Musical act · Bass guitar

Funk, cool, and swagger.

Jah Vibez

Musical act · Island guitar

Sunshine, island cuts, and freedom anthems.

Marty

Musical act + Mascot & intern

Nine years old, toughest critic in the building, and the fox who runs the feed.

Dinesh

Musical act + Tech & engineering

The wizard behind the board, making the technology work while his origin story takes shape.

Mira

Musical act + Visuals & creative

The eye of The Studio, shaping how the work looks and feels.

The Corner Couple

Musical act · Love songs

No names, on purpose. Quiet songs about choosing one another.

Imaginary Friends

Musical act · The origin story

One man, one imaginary friend, and songs about finding a voice.

06 / Tool stack

🛠️ The tools, and what each one is for.

The stack follows the work from an early song idea through production, visuals, release, measurement, and documentation.

Music creation

AI song tools for zero-friction sketches and early audience signal. ChatGPT for lyric development. Ableton for planned real-instrument remakes of the top three songs by play data. BandLab for free collaboration and feedback, not distribution.

Video

Dreamina / Seedance for character clips. Character art enters through the Elements library and is referenced in the prompt. ffmpeg assembles video. The hard lesson: use the concat filter, which decodes every segment and performs one re-encode. The concat demuxer silently produced corrupt multi-segment files. Headless Chromium renders guide covers and page PDFs.

Distribution

DistroKid distributes to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and social music libraries. Its public Musician plan was $24.99 per year with 0% commission on streaming earnings. AI-generated material is excluded from Content ID claims. Spotify for Artists handles editorial pitching, Canvas, and Release Radar. SoundCloud is the workshop and full mirror.

Pitching

SubmitHub and Groover support playlist pitching. Tests run around $20 to $50, with submissions around $1 to $2 each and an expected 10% to 20% acceptance range. TrackStack handled a ChillYourMind submission for Find Your Island (Chill Club mix) on September 27, 2026. RepostExchange, Pretzel Rocks, Fatdrop, and Promo Only sit in the pipeline.

Social

Buffer sends one video to Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Instagram is the personality, TikTok is discovery, YouTube is the archive and royalty multiplier, and Facebook is the official page. Discord is the future home base. Reddit is a slow-burn credibility channel.

Web

Muse web artifacts power The Studio, Dlaney, and the free research guide. Carrd is the hub. Netlify Drop supports static handoff, with one important lesson: anonymous drops stay tied to the browser session that created them. Vercel is the planned host for thestudio.io. LemonSqueezy is an early-stage idea for one-time VIP access.

Research

Spotify for Artists, Instagram Insights, and YouTube Studio provide platform statistics. A Python scoreboard build turns the weekly snapshot into a graphic. Read-only SoundCloud audit data keeps the mirror clean.

Organization

iCloud Drive is the filing cabinet. Apple Notes holds the working to-do list. Google Docs holds the evergreen learning-music-in-public guide. Muse provides project spaces, memory, schedules, and the weekly master meeting.

07 / Process

⚙️ How the work moves.

This is the current operating loop, from fast experimentation to a focused campaign around one song.

Start honestly

The fastest honest path to a first thousand streams was to generate songs with AI song tools, publish them on several streaming platforms, and share them with friends. That experience became a free research guide for artists.

Then push one song

Choose one song and focus the campaign: playlists, pitches, short videos, and one primary listening destination. The published Your First Thousand Streams guide shares the full playbook free.

Run a four-to-eight-week release loop

Three to four weeks out, seed teasers. Two to three weeks out, create a free pre-save. One to two weeks out, pitch through Spotify for Artists. In release week, go live everywhere and seed 10 to 20 micro-playlists in the first 48 hours. For the next one to four weeks, remake the same song from new angles.

Keep the weekly rhythm sustainable

Practice piano for about 10 minutes daily. Publish no more than one or two videos a week. Let Buffer send each video to three channels. Write at a steady, no-quota pace. Leave a few genuine comments on other musicians' work and one real message to someone admired.

Curate by platform

Instagram is the personality. SoundCloud is the sketchbook, where everything goes. Spotify is the gallery, reserved for the best work. AI song tools are the starting point, followed by the question: what did we learn recreating this ourselves?

Make the first $20 a receipt

The working thesis is that 5,000 Spotify streams pay roughly $20. The money is not the business. The business is songs worth saving, a release habit, a video habit, and a small audience that comes back.

Signals over vanity

A save rate above 3% is treated as solid and above 5% as strong. The working research argues that a 500-stream song with a 25% save rate can be more useful for algorithmic reach than a 50,000-stream song with a 1% save rate. Blended 2026 per-stream benchmarks in the research were Tidal $0.012 to $0.015, Apple Music $0.006 to $0.010, Spotify $0.003 to $0.005, and YouTube Music $0.002 to $0.008. Rates vary, so these are planning ranges, not promises.

What we will not do

  • Fake streams or botted playlists. Platforms can strip them retroactively, charge fraud fees, or close accounts.
  • Pay-for-playlist scams. A guaranteed placement is the warning sign.
  • Buy-real-plays vendors, vanity-metric packages, or pay-to-enter contests.
  • Claim that music is therapy, or promote inside survivor support spaces.

Give-first partnerships

The partnership lane is benefit songs, free music for events, and support for organizations already serving children and young adults. Outreach is drafted carefully and reviewed word for word before sending. The long-term relationship should never feel transactional.

08 / What we are learning

💡 The catalog is telling us what it wants to become.

These are working conclusions from the songs, response patterns, and weekly practice, not fixed rules.

The themes that keep showing up

  1. Faith and surrender. Lead Me Lord!, Eyes Up!, Oh My Lord!, and Lift Me Higher form the strongest lane and Dave's favorite.
  2. Island escape. Sunshine becomes a philosophy: leave the noise and find your place.
  3. Kindness as strength. The “strong” songs feel the most authentic and offer the best Spotify material.
  4. The creative life. Songs about making songs.
  5. Comedy and play. Marty keeps the catalog from taking itself too seriously.
  6. Love. The thinnest theme and the largest writing opportunity.

What is working

An unmistakably positive voice. Simple, singable hooks. Specific lines people remember, such as “If you're 5'10, then be 5'10” and “1+1 is 3.” Spanish, French, and Swahili create a real edge. The songs about strength feel the most deeply meant.

What needs work

Repeated choruses need to develop. Generic filler lines dilute specific ones. Dynamics need to build instead of sitting at one energy level. Several songs cover the same “believe in yourself” territory, so remakes should favor the most distinct ideas.

The missing songs

There is no truly sad or bittersweet track, almost no narrative song, very little love material, nothing rooted clearly in Denver or the piano challenge, and no minor-key, late-night 2:00 AM track.

Open source, honestly assessed

Transparency is a credible community angle, not a proven streaming-growth lever. Its real value is education, differentiation, and practical material for other musicians. Stem packs fit dance culture and can earn DJ support and reposts. The process should be framed as shared learning, not a victory scoreboard.

Sustainability beats intensity. Finished beats perfect. Music first, content second. Stay curious, kind, optimistic, and encouraging. Never build attention through sarcasm or rage.

09 / Coming soon

🔜 The honest gaps.

This is the public queue for source material or verification still needed. This document grows only when the underlying work exists. Nothing below is being invented to make the archive look complete.

Lyrics and audio

Twenty-seven lyric sets are still missing from the workspace, and two source audio files have not yet been supplied. Those sections stay marked coming soon.

Catalog verification

The eight curated Spotify tracks still need a fresh verification pass.

Public language

The Studio is still choosing the right public phrase for people who lived through severe childhood trauma. Until that language is chosen, the audience is described plainly and respectfully.

10 / Backstory

📖 Why The Studio exists.

The Studio brings more than 30 years of Dave Dlaney's work under one creative company and one standard: world-class people, world-class work, and execution at the highest level. Its record label is the music project inside that larger company, built around a simple open-source promise. Songs, lyrics, stems, tools, numbers, dashboards, money, experiments, mistakes, and lessons should be available for other people to learn from.

From the cattle farm to the studio

Dave grew up on a cattle farm in the middle of nowhere. At 15, before he could drive, he started his first startup, a web design agency. He later moved to New York City, spent six months working in India, and spent six months at an orphanage in Bolivia. Those chapters shaped a recurring belief behind the work: ambitious ideas matter most when they stay connected to real people.

The public music experiment

Dlaney is the flagship artist. The one-year mission is to learn five instruments, write 50 songs in public, and share what happens along the way. The aim is not to pretend every experiment is finished work. It is to make, listen, learn, improve, and leave a useful trail for the next artist.

The measure that matters

The north star is one person writing back to say the music genuinely moved them. Streams and views help measure reach, but a real human connection is the reason The Studio was built.

11 / Get involved

🤝 Want in? Come build with us.

We are a small team and we stay busy, but the door is open. If you want to get involved, make music with us, or just learn how the work happens, you are welcome to send Dave a DM on Instagram for more information about how to get involved.
